MURAL PROJECTS

During 2018 Leah painted two large scale mural commissions.

The first was painted for Project Ataahua, a young enterprise group who’s focus was to brighten and beautify our public spaces. The word Ataahua meaning “Beautiful” in Māori.

“Flower Mountain” was painted over an eight week period and took over 300 hours to create. Painted exclusively with a roller and brush.

The second mural was painted for Environmental art activists “SEAWALLS” creating awareness about super important environmental issues facing the world’s oceans. As part of an 8 day mural festival.

“A Drop of Paint Can Create an Ocean of Change” (seawalls TM)

Leah’s mural ‘Window to another world’

Is a porthole from city to sea... the scene depicts colourful corals- healthy, to the untrained eye. The fluoresenct glow and the white tipped bleached ends of the central coral piece tell another story.

Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans is PangeaSeed Foundation’s groundbreaking public art program that brings the oceans into the streets around the world. We collaborate with some of today’s most renowned contemporary artists to create large-scale public murals that address pressing environmental issues the oceans are facing.

  • FLOWER MOUNTAIN

The flowers every tomorrow are in the seeds of today.
Guided by this sentiment, the mural “Flower Mountain” is symbolic of our diverse community, our environment and journey into the future.

The palette comprises metallic gold and dreamy blues, with flowing petals and simple line work. The artist’s intent was for flower Mountain to be bright and uplifting referencing the community growing simultaneously together on the journey that is life.

Sponsors: Project Ataahua, Eastland Community Trust & Resene

The mural is located in the HB Williams Memorial Library Car park, Bright st, Gisborne NZ.
